Martinho. O CREOULA completou mais um ano de actividade a dar a descobrir o nosso mar a algumas centenas de instruendos entretanto planeia-se a actividade do navio para 2016, ano de grandes veleiros em Lisboa, em Julho, os quais serão recebidos pelo CREOULA que deverá abrir o habitual desfile de veleiros no Tejo associado à regata Tall Ships, uma vez que por essa altura a SAGRES estará a navegar rumo ao Brasil.</div>

<span style="font-size: large;"><b><span style="color: #666666;">I</span></b></span>magens do NTM CREOULA obtidas a 28 de Abril de 2015 na Base Naval de Lisboa, dias antes de o navio fazer 78 anos. Com efeito, a 10 de Maio de 1937, o CREOULA foi lançado ao Tejo na Rocha do Conde de Óbidos no meio de uma grande festa, celebrando-se a capacidade de o Estaleiro da CUF ter construído os cascos do CREOULA e do seu irmão SANTA MARIA MANUELA em apenas 62 dias úteis, e a qualidade das construções está aí a provar que ambos os cisnes bacalhoeiros são do melhor que flutua nos sete mares, para além de belos, muito belos. </div>

Olhar para o CREOULA e para o seu irmão ainda me empresta algum orgulho em ser português, apesar dos tempos dificeis que caracterizam a nossa época. <span style="color: #666666;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>H</b></span></span>á 78 anos as carreiras de construção naval da Rocha do Conde de Óbidos transpiravam de azáfama com os lugres bacalhoeiros CREOULA e SANTA MARIA MANUELA em contagem decrescente para a cerimónia de lançamento à água, que viria a acontecer com o maior sucesso na tarde de 10 de Maio de 1937, tendo ambos participado na campanha de pesca do bacalhau desse ano. Aqui vemos o navio a sair de Lisboa na tarde de 21 de Abril de 2015 para mais um período de treino da guarnição. Inconfundível a personalidade deste navio histórico que dentro de duas semanas comemora 78 anos da data do lançamento à água no estaleiro do Porto de Lisboa, à Rocha do Conde de Óbidos. O estaleiro ainda existe mas é uma sombra ligeira de um passado recente, já não se sabe construir navios na Rocha, muito menos em 62 dias como aconteceu em 1937 com o CREOULA e o seu irmão SANTA MARIA MANUELA. <span style="font-size: xx-small;"><b><i><span style="color: #444444;">Texto e imagens /Text and images copyright L.M.Correia. Quem sabe se qualquer dia não temos mais um Amigo do CREOULA neste netinho? Ninguém fica indiferente à presença do nosso CREOULA e o facto de se procurar sempre que possível largar de Lisboa com o pano içado, aumenta em muito a visibilidade do navio...</div>

Trata-se de um navio com turbinas a vapor capaz de uma velocidade de serviço de 20 nós, testemunho da geração de navios de carga geral rápidos que antecedeu os primeiros porta-contentores na década de 1960, e um dos únicos navios deste tipo ainda a navegar, desde há 20 anos ao serviço da Escola Náutica de Nova Iorque, utilizado para instrução dos futuros oficiais da Marinha Mercante dos EUA.</div>

com muito interesse e satisfação que li o tão oportuno livro de
memórias " The Heart of a Ship" que os membros das várias
tripulações do nosso "Gazela" em Filadélfia tiveram o
gosto de recordar escrevendo e que o Sr. Eric Lorgus, Presidente do
Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild teve a gentileza de me enviar
pelo Natal.</span></div>

na solicitação que este amigo formulou admiti que se os meus
conhecimentos da língua inglesa fossem melhores, também certamente
poderia contribuir com algumas recordações, para um próximo livro
deste género que viesse a ser editado.</span></div>

a oportunidade surgiu e aceitei a ajuda do meu caro colega e amigo
Luís Miguel Correia, reconhecido historiador e fotógrafo naval, que
amavelmente se disponibilizou para passar para língua inglesa estas
minhas recordações.</span></div>

então uma pequena mas interessante conversa travada com um velho
oficial do nosso "Gazela", que tive o privilégio de
encontrar em Fevereiro de 1960.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Estava
nesta data o "Gazela" a completar de aparelhar, no cais da
Gafanha da Nazaré, próximo dos estaleiros onde tinha concluído a
grande reparação de 1959/60.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Pintado
de fresco e com os cabos dos mastros e das velas a brilhar de novos,
estava com um óptimo aspecto e por isso era muito observado e
visitado. Já nessa época era o único navio de arte redonda, que
continuava a trabalhar na marinha mercante portuguesa, pescando no
Grande Banco da Terra Nova e no mar da Groenlândia.</span></div>

estando eu no convés do navio perto do portaló, vi aparecer no cais
um cavalheiro que aparentava certa idade, embora ainda muito direito
na sua bicicleta e muito respeitável no seu fato escuro. Pela forma
atenta como observava tudo em pormenor, verifiquei que era pessoa
familiarizada com navios. Reconheci depois com agrado que era o
Capitão Amândio Parracá, pessoa muito conhecida no meio marítimo
da nossa região.</span></div>

no rosto muita satisfação, quando se aproximou do navio e me

quando foi que eu conheci este naviozinho? Foi em mil novecentos e
um, quando aqui embarquei como piloto, na companhia do Capitão
Paulo Bagão. Era a primeira viagem que este navio fazia, depois da
grande obra que tinha tido lugar num estaleiro de Setúbal. Estava
novo. Belo navio naquele tempo!... O maior de toda a frota
portuguesa que ia à Terra Nova. Os pescadores até o achavam grande
demais. Diziam que era muito difícil de carregar.</span></div>

então fizeram boa viagem?</span></div>

foi má mas como não íamos à terra a não ser nos Açores, meter
e levar os pescadores que de lá levavamos, era muito tempo no mar.
Nem sabes como estou contente de estar a ver esta obra. Ele merecia.
É um bom navio, e já naquele tempo se dizia que as madeiras e
pregaria que lhe tinha sido aplicada no casco era tudo da melhor
qualidade.</span></div>

falava, ia batendo com a mão na borda do navio como se estivesse a

a recordar acontecimentos das suas viagens que eu fui ouvindo com
muito prazer e atenção. Eram lembranças vividas que eu escutava em
primeira mão, de viva voz, as quais não podia perder de forma

was with great interest and satisfaction that I have read "The
Heart of the Ship", such a timely souvenir book full of memories
on our "Gazela" in Philadelphia, put up affectionately by
the members of her dedicated crews and which Mr. Eric Lorgus,
President of the Philadelphia Ship Preservation Guild, was kind
enough to send me for Christmas.</span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Thinking
about the request formulated by this friend I admitted that if my
knowledge of English was better, certainly I could also contribute
with some memories for an upcoming similar book.</span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Meanwhile
the opportunity arose and I accepted the help of my dear friend and
colleague Luís Miguel Correia, well known maritime historian and
photographer, who kindly offered to translate into English my
memories.</span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Then
I remembered a small but interesting conversation with an old officer
of our "Gazela", I had the privilege of meeting in February
1960.</span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">At
the time the "Gazela" was on the final stage of fitting out
alongside the pier of Gafanha da Nazaré, near the yard where she had
completed major repairs in 1959/60. </span>
</div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Freshly
painted with the rigging of masts and sails shining like new, she
looked pristine and attracted the attention of the locals, being
observed and visited by many. By then she was the only square-rigger
ship still in service with Portuguese merchant navy, fishing in the
Grand Banks of Newfoundland and in Greenland.</span></div>
<div align="JUSTIFY" style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0cm;">
<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">So,
as I was on the deck of the ship near the gangway, I saw a gentleman
appearing on the pier that seemed a certain age, though still very
right on his bike and very respectable in his dark suit. By the way
he observed everything in detail, I realised that he was familiar
with ships. I happily recognised that he was Captain Amândio
Parracá, a very well known person in the local shipping and fishing
circles.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">He
showed a lot of satisfaction on his face, as he approached the ship

replied, predicting it would be nice not to lose the conversation
that seemed about to start. </span>

I do not know anything else. I did not expect to see her here today
because I know well that she is based in Lisbon. No one knows what
joy I'm having! Are you the captain? </span>

Yes sir I am, and then if it pleases you, come aboard, the ship is
yours. </span>

moving up along the gangway, he stopped to tell me:</span></div>

Do you know when I first knew this pretty ship? It was in nineteen
hundred and one, when I joined this ship as a pilot, with Captain
Paulo Bagão. It was "Gazela"'s first trip after she was
rebuilt in a shipyard at Setúbal. She looked like new. Beautiful
ship at the time! ... The largest within all ships in the Portuguese
fleet that went to Newfoundland. Fishermen thought she was too big.
They used to say that it was very difficult to load.</span></div>

then did you have a good trip?</span></div>

was not bad but as we were not going to land unless in the Azores,
to embark and disembark the local fishermen, we stayed for too long
at sea. You do not know how glad I am to be here observing this
work. She deserved it. She is a good ship, and even then it was said
that the woods and nails that had been applied to the hull were all
of the highest quality.</span></div>

he spoke, he was tapping his hand on the edge of the ship as if
greeting an old friend.</span></div>

continued to recall events from his trips that I was listening with
great pleasure and attention. They were vivid recollections that I
heard firsthand told by the protagonist himself, which I could not
lose in any way.</span></div>

that time I was twenty-nine years old and this captain would
certainly have been fifty years older than I was. And it was so good
for me to find someone who after so many years still loved the
"Gazelle" and like myself called it his <i>"naviozinho"
</i>("little ship").</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">It
was in some conversations like this that over the years I was able to
learn the stories related to this our old sea lion, and I'm sure he'd
like to know that I've transmitting to whom is still fond of the
"Gazela".</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Today,
that almost as many years as those "Gazela" had at the time
have passed, I understand better the joy that old Captain felt while
seeing his "little girl" being cared and preserved. Like
him, I too am glad to learn that the "Gazelle" continues to
be cherished and supported, as an old fighter deserves. It is with
great respect and gratitude that I am sending to all the friends of
my "naviozinho", that I consider are also my friends, my
most heartfelt thanks.</span></div>

<span style="color: red; font-size: x-large;"><b>A</b></span> largada da Base Naval de Lisboa estava marcada para a manhã de 7 de Junho de 2014 e de facto, ainda não eram 11h00 já o CREOULA navegava no canal do Alfeite e começava a envergar as velas.</div>

Depois foi navegar sempre com rumo à Barra, junto à margem norte, próximo dos cais da Rocha e de Alcântara, passando sob a Ponte a norte do pilar norte. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
E lá fui acompanhando o CREOULA rio abaixo e fazendo muitas fotografias, pois de cada vez que eu e as minhas lentes se aproximam do lugre CREOULA os resultados são sempre diferentes. </div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Pena mesmo não seguir viagem, pois esta missão do CREOULA é pouco vulgar: o navio vai visitar Sevilha, com chegada prevista para 9 de Junho depois de subir o rio Guadalquivir. </div>

O CREOULA vai permanecer atracado em Sevilha nos dias 10 e 11, largando para Lisboa a 12, com regresso ao Tejo previsto para 14 de Junho. </div>

A bordo seguiram a Universidade Itinerante do Mar e o colégio Pedro Arrupe. A UIM este ano, além do habitual cruzeiro de Verão utiliza o CREOULA para a visita a Sevilha.</div>

O CREOULA larga de Lisboa (Base Naval do Alfeite) pelas 9H00 de Sábado, dia 1 de Dezembro e "passa o fim de semana fundeado em Cascais, regressando à base no Domingo, com partida de Cascais pelas 14H00 e chegada ao Alfeite cerca das 17H00. Mais uma missão honrosa deste belo navio português a representar o nosso País.</div>

In 2008, the idea to race 24 classic yachts across the Atlantic was a bold one. But it paid off. After sailing more than 4,800 miles from the port of Douarnenez to the Caribbean island of St. Barts, the participants rewarded the organizers with their good humour and their enthusiasm. The Sparkman & Stephens yawl Stiren took the trophy and a legend was born.</div>

The Panerai Transat Classique will be entering a new phase in 2012 with, in addition to the Atlantic seaboard event, a leg starting out from a Mediterranean port.</div>

Saint-Tropez, well known as a rendezvous for the world's most prestigious yachts thanks to the regattas The Nioulargue and Les Voiles, is a natural starting point for an alternative warm-up run to Cascais in Portugal. After converging on Lisbon's sophisticated seaboard neighbour, the Atlantic and Mediterranean fleets will set out for that pearl of the Caribbean, Barbados, a destination that has inspired many a racing yachtsmen in search of adventure and discovery.</div>
